ICIEA 2012 Special Invited Session on Trends in Human Robot Interaction
Organizers: Mohan Rajesh Elara, Carlos Antonio Acosta Calderon
Description:
Robots soon will be used in domains where they have to work closely with human, examples of these domains include: search and rescue, military battle, mine and bomb detection, scientific exploration, law enforcement, hospital care, and elderly care. These robots must coordinate their behaviours with their human team members to achieve their goals; however, the requirements and expectations of the humans make this cooperation no just a trivial issue. This cooperation supports the importance of understanding the social and technical issues in human-robot interaction in the context of teams of human and robot.
The human robot interaction has becoming more crucial as technology is entering into every aspect of our daily lives. Human robot interaction is a multidisciplinary field with contributions from human-computer interaction, artificial intelligence, robotics, natural language understanding, and social sciences. In this regard, we would like to organize a special session to foster the discussion about the challenges and solutions to all aspects of human robot interaction. This session is dedicated to the new advances on the interaction of technology based support systems with the social, cultural and organisational structures and mechanisms of human robot interaction. Session topics include but are not limited to
- Socially intelligent robots
- Robot companions
- Assistive robotics
- Remote robots
- Mixed initiative interaction
- Multi-modal interaction
- Long term interaction with robots
- Awareness and monitoring of humans
- Robot-team learning
- User studies of HRI
- Experiments on HRI collaboration
- Metrics for teamwork
